It\u2019s just getting away from the hustle and bustle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;And, as we know, nature is declining in so many areas \u2013 and so many species are in trouble \u2013 that we need people to take action and that kind of passion sparks when you are very young.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"http:\/\/centreforjournalismprojects.co.uk\/InvictaNews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Lucy-insert_mixdown.mp3\"><\/audio><figcaption><em>Lucy Hodson on what children gain from the birdwatching <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, 60,000 children took part in the event. Yet, this year, with playgrounds quieter, Lucy expects the number of birds spotted to set new records as our feathered friends may feel a little bolder than other years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, with families locked down together, more parents will be able to help their little ones. I usually only get to see the finished pieces of work, like any parent does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This year it\u2019s been so nice to actually get the opportunity to take part with Caydee and get involved with the work she is actually doing for the Big Schools\u2019 Birdwatch: planning her activities, helping her decide what to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m just seeing it all in action.
