{"id":1840,"date":"2021-06-06T21:01:41","date_gmt":"2021-06-06T20:01:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/centreforjournalismprojects.co.uk\/InvictaNews\/?p=1840"},"modified":"2021-06-22T22:28:52","modified_gmt":"2021-06-22T21:28:52","slug":"amazon-prime-subscribers-are-not-using-the-video-service-regularly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/centreforjournalismprojects.co.uk\/InvictaNews\/2021\/06\/06\/amazon-prime-subscribers-are-not-using-the-video-service-regularly\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon Prime subscribers are not using the video service regularly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Amazon Prime may be the most unpopular video app of the three biggest streaming services in the UK according to a survey carried out by Invicta News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the launch of Disney+ last year, the three most popular subscription streaming services were Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ according to Ofcom\u2019s Media Nations report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-flourish\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"responsive-embed widescreen\"><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" src=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/6102863\/embed#?secret=BvrTOQ0N4N\" data-secret=\"BvrTOQ0N4N\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" height=\"575\" width=\"700\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Our non-scientific survey of thirty candidates found that more people had access to Amazon Prime than Disney+ but fewer candidates use it regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One person explained that they only keep the service for its benefits when it comes to free deliveries from Amazon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another said: \u201cI tend to have bouts of binge-watching certain series on Amazon, especially over the winter and in lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow that we are in springtime, there is much more to do outside in the garden, so no time for daytime viewing of TV.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dan Rayburn is a US-based streaming media expert and consultant with over 20 years of experience. He believes that video streaming will continue to become more fragmented as businesses realise the perks of having a direct relationship with consumers rather than getting paid by a third party like Netflix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cYou and I as customers will go \u2018man I would love to sign up for one service with only one credit card with one password and have access to everything\u2019. That sounds nice. That is not a reality of how these companies work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dan also explained that bundling of different streaming services together will become more common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-flourish\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"responsive-embed widescreen\"><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" src=\"https:\/\/flo.uri.sh\/visualisation\/6103149\/embed#?secret=jHv6nzOTc6\" data-secret=\"jHv6nzOTc6\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" height=\"575\" width=\"700\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, with the rise in the number of subscription streaming services, the public may find it harder to choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a behavioural theory that implies that more choice is not always good. American psychologist Dr Barry Swartz is one of the lead theorists on this theory called Choice Overload.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He argued that too much choice could be a negative for the user by overwhelming them with options. Thus the user either is paralysed by the choice or becomes less satisfied with the choice they did make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another psychologist Dr Benjamin Scheibehenne explained that this theory is not very common in real-life scenarios. He is based in Germany. He said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;My perspective on this is that there may be sometimes situations where this choice overload effect occurs but those would be rare exceptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn real-world environments, people seem to be more than capable with dealing and navigating large assortments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, with the rise in the number of subscription streaming services, the public may find it harder to choose.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amazon Prime may be the most unpopular video app of the three biggest streaming services in the UK according to a survey carried out by Invicta News.
