Gillingham have completed the signing of Bury midfielder Callum Reilly on loan until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old left midfielder is set to be a direct replacement for hot prospect Sean Clare, who re-joined Sheffield Wednesday after his loan came to an end earlier this month.
And Gills boss Steve Lovell admitted he has had his eye on him for a while.
He said: “I’ve been tracking him for a while, he’s got great energy and has played in the championship for Birmingham.
“Although he’s only 24, he’s quite experienced at playing at a level where he’s done very well.
“He’s very intelligent and I really like his mobility and his fitness is great, so he’ll fit in with us very nicely and the supporters will really like him.”
Lovell added that it was important to replace Clare, but revealed he’s still looking to bring in more players this transfer window.
“We were lacking a left sided player so he was the one I was really interested in and I’m really pleased that he’s come.
“I’ve got two or three players we’re still working on but still hopeful that a couple more will be signed before the end of the window.
“I’m not going to panic buy though, but I’d like to bring in another two to give a little bit more competition in certain areas.”
Reilly has featured 25 times for the Shakers this season, scoring just the one goal against Stoke City U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy in November.
The wide-man will wear the number 26 shirt and is in the squad for the Gills’ trip to Scunthorpe on Saturday.
