STAR WARS 7: The latest need-to-know

Screen Shot 2014-06-06 at 16.05.17All the latest intel on the Star Wars 7 seems to be generating a happy consensus amongst fans. Perhaps it’s the comfort of traditional props and other visual aspects visible in recently leaked photos. They feature a sort of marketplace on Tattooine, landspeeders, various dark hooded figures and most importantly, no Mickey Mouse characters. The leak has helped to assuage the popular concern that the forthcoming trilogy will go ridiculously heavy on the CGI.

Abrams responded to these leaks splendidly, tweeting his handwritten note dismissing the rumour that the Millenium Falcon will make an appearance. A note stuck on a Dejarik holochess board. A game of Dejarik was featured in Episode 4: A New Hope – on the Millenium Falcon. A little mockery of our great, burning voids that no amount of leaks, rumours and speculation can possibly fill. Not that we will stop.

 MUSIC

One of the most imperative decisions to have been made for Episode 7, and at the same time, an indisputably easy one. John Williams will remain the soul of the beloved saga, no doubt gracing our ears with scores that continue to bring the force to life. And there’s always the consolation that if the film disappoints, the soundtrack will compensate more than adequately and serve up a magic entirely of its own standing.

 CAST

The original cast have been confirmed. Mark Hammil, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker. The new faces have mainly been handpicked from our favourite films and TV shows. JJ Abrams did well to strike a balance. Getting the original cast back in despite a long way from youthful now, and casting fairly unknown, fresher faces. Here are the new faces we can expect:

John Boyega – (Moses, Attack the Block) the first ever black lead to be cast in Star Wars

Daisy Ridley – nothing very notable

Adam Driver (Adam Sackler, Girls) – reportedly a Vader-style villain

Domhnall Gleeson – (Bill Weasley, Harry Potter)

Andy Serkis – (Gollum, Lord of the Rings)

Lupita Nyong’o – (Patsey, 12 Years a Slave)

Gwendoline Christie – (Brienne of Tarth , Game of Thrones)
