Bold journalist confronts Mugabe about presidential longevity

Bemused journalist enjoys Mugabe’s discomfort

Nigerian Journalist Adeola Fayhun interrogated President Robert Mugabe on his way back from visiting Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mugabe was confronted by the journalist, popular for her news show Saharatv which is broadcasted on youtube.

She asked: “Mr. President, don’t you think its time to step down?”,  “How is your health?” and “when will there be change in Zimbabwe?”

There was no comment from Mugabe, but his facial expression made it clear that he was less than impressed.

Zimbabwean Minister of information Jonothan Moyo tweeted: “If Nigerian journalism has come to be this, then God help Nigeria since nobody has monopoly on such uncouth conduct!”

Mugabe is known for oppressing political and human rights such as freedom of press, access to information and the freedom of speech.

In 2014, activist Itai Dzamara(featured above) was violently attacked and left hospitalised after hand delivering a letter asking Mugavbe to step down.

A local zimbabwean news site revealed that Itai was reported missing since March 2015.

His disappearance is believed to have been the doing of Zimbabwean Police and most likely, those closely associated with Mugabe.

It would be damning if Itai was forcibly removed because Zimbabwe would be, again, in breach of human rights.

Various protests have occurred in rattling the police and Zanu-pf about his whereabouts but no conclusive information has yet been given.

Dictator Mugabe has a track record of purging his opponents.

The struggle for democracy in Zimbabwe is ongoing, and it is a shame that Adeola Fayehun, a foreigner, was the one to spark controversy and conversation.
