(Credit &#8211; Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Fishing organisations are continuing to criticise the government over its lack of preparedness following Britain\u2019s exit from the European Union. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Increased checks and delays at major ports have prompted the Prime Minister to pledge \u00a323 million to compensate those who have lost trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"http:\/\/centreforjournalismprojects.co.uk\/InvictaNews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/FISHING.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But, few organisations and businesses have heard about the actual details of the scheme, including the National Federation of Fishermen&#8217;s Organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barrie Deas of the NFFO said that he was expecting teething problems, but is surprised by how Brexit has actually made it more difficult for imports and exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We were given every reason to believe that the UK would see fundamental change in the relationship with the EU on fishing rights and the final result has fallen far short of that.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of the &#8216;teething problems&#8217; as described by Boris Johnson, it is expected that they will be overcome in the near future, with solicitor Sarah Adkins commenting on the long-term impacts that Brexit will have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There are fundamentally significant changes to the basis on which fishery produce can move from Great Britain to the EU and indeed Northern Ireland, and some of those are insurmountable&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Bad news for anyone in Scotland&#39;s fishing industries hoping for some action from the UK Government to help with that problem of getting their products to the European markets <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BrexitChaos?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BrexitChaos<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xn8bKudHF8\">pic.twitter.com\/xn8bKudHF8<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Deidre Brock (@DeidreBrock) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DeidreBrock\/status\/1352225750011752449?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 21, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption>SNP MP Deidre Brock makes her point clear in Parliament.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The fears over the loss of livelihoods has reinforced the anger at the government for not living up to their promises that they had been negotiating over for many months in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trevor Datson of <a href=\"https:\/\/ukfisheries.net\/\">UK Fisheries Limited<\/a> said that while the government is doing its best they could go one step beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;What we really do need is the government to negotiate deals with Norway so that we can do what we always do which is bring home the fish and generate taxes for HMRC&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many fisheries will continue to wait over information about the \u00a323 million pledge by the government, as they look to hang on to business.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fishing organisations are continuing to criticise the government over its lack of preparedness following Britain\u2019s exit from the European Union.
