‘Massive growth’ set for Faversham FC, chairman reveals

Faversham FC are clinging onto hopes of survival in the Isthmian League South East, following a slow start to the season which has seen the club struggle to get into second gear.

The Lilywhites remain in bottom spot with nine points after twenty-one games, and trail 13 points behind safety, with 17 games left to play.

Faversham born-and bred chairman, Gary Smart, also an ex-player of 20 years, revealed the club is doing everything to stay up this season, “at all costs”.

Despite the Lilywhites’ current position, with a new management team in place, the third this season, Smart said: “We will be going for the league title next year. We’ve got the finances in place.”

The 52-year-old has revealed big plans for the club over the next three years. In May, a 3G pitch is being laid, which Smart said will grow revenue “massively”.

This September marks the start of the club’s new football academy, where they will be welcoming 35 students this year, increasing to 70 the year after.

The Faversham FC Chairman said: “We’ve done a land swap of the back pitch with the Duchy of Cornwall, which will allow us to develop the ground with a new clubhouse and facilities such as a gym and coffee shops.

“It’s going to be a completely different place in three years’ time.”

Despite revenue currently being down as a result of multiple postponed home matches, due to the pitch being waterlogged, Smart said the club’s revenue will “catch itself back up”.

Sammy Moore has been the Lilywhites’ manager for seven weeks now, after leaving Potters Bar Town – league title chasers in the division above Faversham.

“It was the ambition of [Faversham] that made me want to take on this new challenge.

“[Faversham FC] could quite easily be the biggest club in Kent in three years’ time. We know we have the ability to do it.”
