20-year-old set to become one of Kent’s youngest pub landlords

Kyle Blair aged just 20 years old is the newest landlord of the Black Horse Pub in the village of Bean in Kent.

The local pub has seen many different tenants over the past decade with little success but Kyle is adamant he can change The Black Horse’s fortunes around, despite the pub industry being at an all time low.

“Something like 30% of pubs closed down through lockdown and some don’t open on Mondays and Tuesdays because of how dead they are”

Kyle has plenty of ideas to make his tenure successful, seven new 4k TV’s will be installed around the pub with SKY and BT sports along with a brand new pool table for customers to use.

On average, SKY alone costs in the region of £20,000 a year for a pub to televise sports but can bring in plenty of customers.

Live music will also feature in the pub as the venue looks to increase its popularity at the weekends.

“We are having tribute acts every 8 weeks, good ones, arctic monkeys and also Tina Turner etc.”

The young man is keen to bring in the younger generation as he feels its key to long-term success, but remains adamant that he wants to reward the regulars who have lived in the village for decades with a new loyalty card scheme.

Some locals are concerned about the pub attracting a younger clientele, Terry Andrews lives in the village with his young family.

“I’m worried about having younger people around our village, it brings trouble and we already have a fair share of that”.

The village of Bean is usually very quiet and only has a population of 771 people with the pub being a local hotspot for residents.

The Black Horse in Bean is currently closed for refurbishment and will reopen on the 2nd of March, with big plans in place for a huge opening day.

Kyle urges the public to support local businesses and come to the pub for a cold pint or two.
