New year new you is fully in force with pure gym Chatham announcing the amount of new members joining in January has gone up by 60% compared to the average regular intake in other months.

With many people using new years resolution as a good excuse to get fit and lose the Christmas weight that we all pile on during the festive period.

Harry, a trainer from Rochester health club, a small local independent gym talks about working out at the start of the year, “New year is as good of a time as any to get fit and lose the pounds” he says but maintaining the new members can be difficult, “there’s a 50/50 drop off rate and then out of the 50 percent that drop off its normally only half of them that stay to become regulars over the year.”

For those that struggle with life in winter going to the gym is often a good way of improving your quality of life. Exercising “improves your physical and mental wellbeing and gives you a chance to socialise with your friends and maybe even meet new people,” explained Harry

Why don’t you use new year as an excuse to head down to your local gym and get fit yourself?
