The founder of a Medway charity has admitted he sees no end to homelessness in sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gillingham Street Angels founder Neil Charlick spent many years in his 20s homeless, battling addiction and mental health issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He now dedicates his work life to supporting those who are going through a similar experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But when asked if charities like his will ever be surplus to requirements, Mr Charlick said: \u201cWe\u2019re never going to get there because there is such a divide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf I was in charge of a country, I\u2019d make sure my people are good, they\u2019ve got houses, they\u2019ve got food, they\u2019ve got clothes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The charity provide support for over 15,000 people in the area, from giving out meals, to warm clothing and kitchen essentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Energy prices have doubled in recent months, meaning that operational costs for Street Angels have hit a high of \u00a3400,000 per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To cover these surges, the charity receives \u00a3100,000 of lottery funding, and regular donations from their supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their portfolio now spans across eight premises, including a caf\u00e9, foodbank, and charity shop.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
