Rochester residents caught a glimpse of the iconic time travel machine and police public call box from the TV show, Doctor Who, this week in the local High Street.
The crochet art project was created by a yarn and haberdashery shop Unravel and Unwind CIC, it depicts the TARDIS, the recognisable blue police public call box but this one was made entirely of yarn.
The community interest company was approached by Nucleus Arts, an organisation that looks to promote the arts in Medway and Kent.
Nucleus Arts owns the phone box, named the Medway Art Box, neighbouring their café on Rochester High Street.
Faye Lamb, Director of the project, said she gave Nucleus Arts two options for potential designs and they said “its the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who this year, you know if we do it for October time then its in time for the new episodes coming out for the celebration. Lets do that, lets go for it.”
Next month marks the 60th anniversary of the science fiction TV show with special episodes airing and the return of fan favourite David Tennant, previously the 10th Doctor.
The episodes will be available on Disney+ and the BBC with the first premiering on the 25th November.
The crochet design is being taken down this week but the team responsible have already been asked to work with Nucleus arts again next year.
Faye gave a hint as to what the groups next project will be. “All I can say is Pokemon and Gillingham.”
So, keep an eye out for more art pop ups over Medway.
