Disabled residents across Kent are calling for help as their energy bills skyrocket to an average nearly £300. The surge in costs leaves many individuals grappling with financial strain leaving them to make tough choices in their lives.
Hannah Tutt, a disabled resident in Canterbury, says one of the most challenging consequences she has to pay “more money towards heating and fuel.” Many in Hannah’s position cannot afford to charge their chairs so are left feeling “lonely” and “depressed” as they remain indoors.
What action has the government taken to support people in 2023?
- Energy Bills support Scheme offers to give every household a £400 discount on their winter energy bills
- The Energy Price Guarantee limits the amount you can be charged per unit of gas or electricity
- Granted disabled residents with an extra £150
Despite the recent announcements, the situation remains dire for many electric wheelchair users and for electric wheelchair users like Hannah they rely on the help from the government.
