Uproar against the University of Kent has arisen after splashing £20,000 on a new canopy shelter, weeks after it was revealed it is still paying £7,000 for an empty bar on campus.
The spending has come under heavy criticism after several staff members continue to be made redundant as they look to save close to £20 million.
In January a new round of reductions were announced due to failing student numbers, increasing loans and several courses removed from the curriculum.
Students in Medway seemed unaware of the tent but after they were made aware their displeasure was voiced.
“The university is trying to cut costs and went to get a tent for £20,000 isn’t fair, that money can be used for something tangible.”
Another reacted angrily saying “that is a total waste of money!”
