The international development minister, Anneliese Dodds, has quit over Sir Keir Starmer\u2019s decision to cut the international aid budget. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She predicted that the prime minister would find it \u201cimpossible\u201d to deliver on his commitment to maintain development spending in Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine with the diminished budget, which will fall by about \u00a36bn by 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dodds\u2019 resignation comes the day after Keir Starmer met Donald Trump to discuss the situation in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Prime Minister has offered to send British troops to Ukraine to help secure the country from further Russian aggresion following a potential ceasefire deal which the American president is currently trying to push through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To finance the troops Starmer plans to raise UK defence spending to 2.5% of gross domestic ptoduct by 2027, which will be funded by the cut to international aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier this month Dodds spoke out to oppose Trump\u2019s plans to move Palestinians in Gaza to neighbouring Arab states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
