Video creds: Mahima Abedin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Medway\u2019s South Asian community got together and started their Diwali celebrations early.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sahara Foundation which focuses on supporting elderly South Asian people hosted a special event for the festival of lights which is celebrated by Hindu\u2019s and Sikh\u2019s around the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paramjot Kaur, the founder of Sahara said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/centreforjournalismprojects.co.uk\/kentstandard\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/DIWALI-clip.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This year Diwali is set to be on the 12th and for many of those celebrating it marks a new beginning and the triumph of light over darkness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But for those that came to the event, they had a head start. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the activities people took part in include glass candle painting and bollywood dancing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kiran Badyal, attendee, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/centreforjournalismprojects.co.uk\/kentstandard\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/DIWALI-c2.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But while this was an event celebrating Diwali, it was about combating loneliness within the community too, many of those who came said the support group has greatly benefited their social life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suru Patel, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/centreforjournalismprojects.co.uk\/kentstandard\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/DIWALI-c3.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VIDEO: Community takes part in the fun at Mid-Kent college.
