Kent Police have closed down a drugs den in Broadstairs due to drug use and anti-social behaviour taking place in the building.
Police Officers have secured a three-month long closure order for the property at Dundonald Road from the Magistrates.
Sergeant Heidi Collins from Thanet Community Safety Unit said: “It will stop the property from being used for drug-related activity and we hope the community will notice an improvement in the area following the court order.”
The magistrates have allowed one individual found not to be involved with any anti-social behaviour to continue living at the premises.
Officers in previous searches of the property have twice found quantities of class A drugs since October 2018.
The closure of the flat comes after Police searches were carried out due to residents complaining of drug-dealing and anti-social behaviour taking place in the surrounding street.
Kent Police have also increased patrols in the area to reassure residents.
Shadow Cabinet Member for Housing & Safer Neighbourhoods in Thanet Council, Helen Whitehead said: “Ensuring that all residents are aware of and feel confident in using services such as 101 to report concerns is essential; as a council we are working continually towards community security and safety, and as a community we will continue to work together to make sure that residents feel safe.”
The property will now be closed until 27th of December 2019 and anyone found in it will risk being arrested, fined or even imprisoned.
Kent Police urges residents to report all instances of drug dealing and nuisances in their neighbourhood by calling 101 or 999.
