Kent house prices are on the rise but estate agent warns Gillingham will not see steep increase

A recent report revealed that average house prices in the county rose last year.

According to data published by the land registry earlier this week, house prices in Kent rose by 0.8 percent from November 2018 to 2019.

Areas that saw the biggest rise were Sevenoaks, Ashford and Tunbridge Wells where house prices rose more than 3.5 per cent.

Meanwhile, prices in Canterbury, Folkestone and Maidstone all fell.

Owner of LeGrys Estate Agents in Tunbridge Wells, Bill LeGrys, credits the rise to the area’s desirability.

“People can have an easy commute to London so that’s good for their job as well as the benefits of country living.”

Mr LeGrys does not believe that the increase in these areas will have a knock on affect on house prices in Gillingham.

“Gillingham has a reputation of crime and the appearance of the town is nowhere near that of Tunbridge Wells.”
