Gareth Bale breaks Wales scoring record

Gareth Bale has become Wales all-time top scorer following his hat-trick against China in the China Cup this afternoon.

He overtakes Liverpool and Wales icon Ian Rush as Wales top scorer with 29 goals for the Dragons.

The 28-year-old Real Madrid ace has reached the figure in his 70th game for the national team. He broke the record as he finished off his treble for Wales.

Wales ran out 6-0 victors against China in the semi-finals of the China Cup friendly competition. In addition to Bale’s hat-trick there was a brace from Burnley hitman Sam Vokes with on-loan Hull forward Harry Wilson grabbing the other goal in the rout.

He became Wales youngest ever scorer, aged 17,  in 2006 after scoring against Slovakia.

The former Spurs and Southampton star also used to hold the record for youngest Welsh player in history after winning his first Cap against Austria in 2006, but he has since been overtaken by Liverpool starlet Harry Wilson.

The Welsh winger’s hat-trick comes as welcome news for his Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane, as Bale has struggled for form and fitness in the Spanish capital this season only managing 14 starts in La Liga this season.
