Here in Kent voters have followed the trend of shunning the two main parties and voting for independents, greens and the Lib Dems.

Cllr Mike Baldock of The Swale Independents Alliance said that the reason why voters were choosing independents over the traditional parties was because he feels that party politics has no role to play in local elections.

Many have blamed the Government’s failure to deliver on Brexit for the heavy tory casualties

“People want to see councillors that care about their local area, who want to work together for the common good for the borough and not follow party lines.” He added.

Many Commentators and analysts have said that the governments failure to deliver Brexit is the reason why so many have turned away from voting for the Tories in the local elections, Cllr Baldock doesn’t think this the case, adding,”you’ve got a whole nations worth of local issues and local authorities and that’s what its about”.
