Kent house prices rise over the past year

NOTE: This was originally reported in December 2017, re-published for online purposes

House prices in Kent rose by over £11’000 in 2017, spelling bad news for potential owners.

With the average price of a house going over three hundred and sixty thousand pounds, potential buyers are worried they won’t get the opportunity to buy their own home.

Zoopla reported the increase in prices, showing that the highest growth was in Swanley, who saw a near thirty thousand pound increase in value per property.

Over the past five years, property values have trended higher for each type in Kent, with the the average change for prices between 2012 and 2017 being a 34% increase, according to The Land Registry.

But while the pricing has increased overall, many retailers and home-owners have welcomed the news:

Craig Sullivan, owner of Student House Gillingham and realtor to post graduates said, “What you’ve got to ask is what’s driving the growth, obviously a lack of supply and the government are obviously green-lighting a lot of developments which are obviously going to help ease that situation, and also affordability which you’ve got to look at.

“Believe it or not the stats do say that now in this time of life for a first time buyer is more affordable than ever.”
