83 potential suspects identified in football sex abuse scandal

83 suspects and 98 clubs are now involved in the football sex abuse scandal.

The investigation spans from “premier clubs through to amateur” according to the National Police Chief Council.

98% of the identified victims are male, and the age range was between seven and 20, according to police.

Although 98 clubs have been referenced, not all are necessarily under investigation.

The scandal first surfaced three weeks ago when ex Crewe defender Andy Woodward waived his anonymity to say as a young footballer, he had been the victim of sexual abuse.

Children’s charity NSPCC said the “shocking” numbers had revealed the “deeply disturbing extent of abuse” in football.
