Councillors call for pothole money to be spent better

By Daniel Surey

Stanway’s local councillors want Essex County Council to spend money on fixing potholes instead of giving cash to motorists who have had their vehicles damaged by the holes.

Lesley and Jessica Scott-Boutell, who have been told off for reporting pothole problems too often, say that Essex County Council should be doing better.

Earlier this year, a Liberal Democrat Freedom of Information request found that the council has paid out £1.2 million to car owners whose cars are in need of repair after hitting potholes.

The council said they were aware of the potholes.
