Gandhi accused of racism – his statue to be moved

The Ghana government have decided to move a statue of Mahatma Gandhi after large scale protests at the country’s largest university. The protests started this summer shortly after the statue was installed. Students and teachers consider the statue to be a “punch in the face”  since Gandhi made racist remarks in several letters during the late 1800’s. Among other things, Gandhi called Africans “barbarians”. Later on in his life he did however apologise for his remarks.
