Alexandra Schulman leaves British Vogue

The editor-in-chief of British Vogue has decided to leave the magazine after 25 years.

When she was appointed editor-in-chief back in 1992, the British press wrote that she was not well dressed enough for the role. Her predecessor, Liz Tilberis, was at the time known for her Chanel suits, while Schuman had a more toned down look – a lot of black garments, long skirts and platform shoes.

According to The Guardian, a known fashion editor apparently said “She wasn’t very fashion. She looked like a rock chick, and not in a good way.”

People were also questioning her lack of fashion experience, as she went from men magazine GQ to Vogue. But, they knew what Anna Wintour has accomplished as editor-in-chief for the American version, and her critics silenced as Schulman did a good job. Their millennial issue that came out in December 1999, became the magazine’s most sold issue ever, with over 240,000 sold copies.

It is not known what the editor will do next, and she will stay with Vogue until June.
