Winter vomiting bug levels higher than normal

The amount of people suffering from the winter vomiting bug in England is higher than average, according to figures.

Numbers are up 9% on the previous five years with 1,704 cases being recorded by doctors so far.

In England this winter there has been 100 hospital outbreaks of the sickness bug which can force beds and wards to close down at the busiest time of year.

850 beds out of 100,000 are currently closed in England due to the illness.

Public Health England has told people not to be worried by the statistics because the figures are still inside the expected range.

It explained that the virus may just be peaking earlier this year than in previous years.
