It’s the 6th November, which marks exactly five weeks until general election-eve…

Boris Johnson has called the vote in an attempt to break the Brexit stalemate in the House of Commons, and more importantly to fix his lack of majority in the hope of getting this pushed through with greater ease.

Having a majority in the House will mean that the PM should be able to provide a deal agreed with the European Union to deliver on the mandate for the UK to leave the EU, announced in 2016 following the referendum.

His opposition, namely Liberal Democrats’ leader Jo Swinson, support the general election in the aim of utilising the extension period of three months to push to stop Brexit altogether.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn champions a second referendum on the Brexit issue, although we remain unsure as to whether he backs revoking Article 50 or renegotiating a “sensible” deal.

In a statement given this afternoon outside No.10, the PM said the Government had been left “paralysed” since the Brexit referendum in June 2016.

Mr Johnson said Brexit could be delivered in “just a few weeks” if the Conservatives were to win the Christmas election.

The speech delivered at Downing Street came after Boris met with the Queen to dissolve Parliament, just before she came to Kent!

Just 131 weeks apart, this will be the UK’s second general election in just two and a half years.

The Tories are hoping this election will be more successful after their last result. Theresa May held an early election in 2017 in a bid to increase her majority and push Brexit through faster, but the result proved to do the opposite, which led to the coalition agreement with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).
