The exclusive exhibition of Maidstone United Football Club will be on show for the final time this weekend.

“Maidstone: United in Football” has been running since September after it was given to the museum by a lifelong supporter.

John Bunyard, curator of the exhibit, says he was inspired by an old kit of the club he saw in a museum and had been collecting club memorabilia since.

“It originally began as the story of Maidstone United and then expanded to Kentish football clubs as a whole”, he said. “When you include memorabilia from other clubs, inevitably fans from there will come too”.

The exhibition, which began in September, showcased items of Maidstone as well as other Kent clubs, but most notably the shirt worn by ex-Manchester United player, David Sadler, in the 1968 European Cup final. Sadler was also a former Maidstone United player.

Fans from far and wide have been to visit, including BBC News. Ahead of Maidstone United’s FA Cup Second Round tie at Blackpool in December, the news outlet spoke to Bunyard in the museum.

“It’s sad to think that by this time next week, it will all be a memory”, added Bunyard, with the donated memorabilia set to be returned to those who lent it after 3 successful months.

The exhibition concludes this Saturday and is free admission.
