Premier League January Transfer Dealings

It’s been quite an uneventful January transfer window in the Premier League compared to previous years. Clubs are reluctant to go for targets in a window where clubs force you to pay over the odds.

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are yet to part with any cash this window, however that can change very soon.

Man United are reported to be close to signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes. The fee of £60m has been thrown around but according to reports, a fee has not yet been agreed on while personal terms with Fernandes has according to The Telegraph.

The Portuguese international had a breakout year last season scoring 33 goals in all competitions and was one of the most sought-after players last summer.

Liverpool remain the only top six side this window to secure a permanent signing this window as they acquired Japanese international Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of £7.25m.

Aston Villa and Norwich City are two of the most active clubs with two signings each. Villa brought in Danny Drinkwater on loan from Chelsea as well as former Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina on loan from AC Milan after Tom Heaton’s season ending knee injury.

Villa are close to a third signing of the window having agreed a fee of around £8.5m with Genk for striker Mbwana Samatta.

Samatta scored against Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this season and has impressed suitors with his performances in Europe.

While Norwich City brought in Lukas Rupp on an undisclosed deal from Hoffenheim alongside Ondrej Duda on loan from Hertha Berlin.

The Premier League said goodbye to Olivier Giroud who left Chelsea to join Inter Milan in a £3.8m move after eight years with both Arsenal and Chelsea.

Tottenham Hotspur beat off competition from West Ham United to secure the signing of the highly-touted Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy.

Fernandes was surplus to requirements at Benfica and becomes Jose Mourinho’s first signing since taking charge.

One big name that the league could potentially say goodbye to is Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen, who is in talks with Inter Milan as the Denmark captain enters the final six months of his contract.

According to Sky Sports, Inter has offered just over £10m plus bonuses, however the Premier League club are standing firm on their £17m valuation of the Danish star.

After eight and a half years, Manchester United captain Ashley Young is travelling to Milan for a medical ahead of a £1.3m move to Inter Milan.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is attempting to make his first signing as Arsenal boss with PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa.

The Frenchman has completed just 90 minutes four times this season in Ligue 1 and while PSG are reluctant to let him leave in January, they may choose to cash in on him now as his contract ends this summer.

Newcastle United are another club closing in on their first January signing after Inter Milan are willing to let midfielder Valentino Lazaro leave on loan.

Deadline day is fast approaching and if previous transfer windows have taught us anything, some of these deals will still be on the cards at the 11th hour.
