Local – Two far-right members jailed after Sevenoaks fight

Two members of the far-right group Generation Identity have been jailed for a brawl outside The Stag Theatre in Sevenoaks.

The incident, which happened in April 2018, involved two members of the GI group fighting against members of the far-left group Antifa.

Initially, the fight broke out between members of the same far-right group but soon realised that they were on the same side, and split themselves up.


National – The vigil for London Bridge victims

A vigil was held in London today to honour the two victims of Friday’s terrorist attack on London Bridge.

Jack Merritt, 25, and Saskia Jones, 23, were killed by an attacker, who was released from prison after serving just half his sentence.

Both Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn attended the vigil, which was held near Fishmongers’ Hall, where the attack started.


International – Start of the Chile Climate Summit

Today marks the start of the 25th United Nations Climate Change Conference, which kicks off in Madrid, and is set to last until Friday the 13th.

It was originally meant to be held in Chile, but had to be moved as a result of the continuing civil unrest, following price hikes to their train stations.

Teenage environmental activist, Greta Thunberg, is set to attend at some point over the next two weeks.


Entertainment – Doctor Who to return on New Years Day

The BBC has confirmed that Doctor Who will return on New Years Day, to kick off the twelfth series.

It is set to begin with a two-part special episode, named Spyfall.

Alongside current doctor, Jodie Whittaker, it was also announced that Stephen Fry and Lenny Henry will be joining the cast, although their roles are still under wraps.


Sports – Record-breaker Messi wins Ballon d’Or    

Lionel Messi won his record sixth trophy after beating out Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who was also chasing his sixth Ballon d’Or.

Messi led Barcelona to their 26th La Liga title, notching 51 goals and 21 assists in 49 games.

World Cup winner Megan Rapinoe won the women’s Ballon d’Or, beating out England’s Lucy Bronze and fellow USA teammate Alex Morgan.


Tomorrow – Donald Trump in the UK

Although Donald Trump landed late on Monday night, he will meet the Queen tomorrow at Buckingham Palace at a reception, where many world leaders will meet.

This is in anticipation of the NATO summit on Wednesday in Watford, which will also act as a celebration for the 70th anniversary of NATO.

He is expected to meet privately with Prime Minister Boris Johnson as well as French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
