Lancashire has been placed into a tier three lockdown by the government to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.
A tier three lockdown means that all pubs and bars will be shut, unless they can act as restaurants only, and people will be banned from socialising between different households.
So far, the only other area which are in a ‘very high risk’ lockdown is Liverpool City region, whilst Manchester has rejected its tier three placement on account of a lack of funding to cover the money lost as a result of a further lockdown.
Labour councillor for Fleetwood East in Lancashire, Lorraine Beavers, said that a circuit breaker lockdown is needed nationwide to ensure a level playing field.
“I don’t think we’re moving fast enough. They had different rules for Blackpool and now they want to put it in a lockdown. It’s been a total shambolic mess,” says Cllr Beavers (Lab).
The county of Lancashire recorded 815 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, with spikes in Blackburn and Preston.
This comes as Boris Johnson is set to announce changes to the lockdown situation in Manchester after a clash with Mayor Andy Burnham at a press briefing at 4pm.
Lancashire will officially go into tier 3 lockdown on Saturday the 17th of October.
