Black History Month has come around once again with exhilarating energy and motivation as spaces become more aware and accommodating to the Black community.

A number of Black voices have stated that they are proud, learning, and teaching during this month of acknowledgment. The Minister of State for Equalities, Kemi Badenoch, wants people to learn the “stories of those less well-known individuals who we will forget if we don’t showcase them.”

Dawn Butler, who has broken down historic barriers like becoming the third Black woman ever to be elected as an MP, exclaims: “It is no secret that I would like to get to a point where we do not need Black History Month, so our history is not confined to 31 days.”

One event this month, as highlighted by the official Black History Month website, is a Microsoft Teams lecture by the University of Kent School of Biosciences encouraging people aged 18-55 from all backgrounds to sign up to the DKMS stem cell registry.

Dr. Shepherd, a Senior Lecturer in Stem Cell Biology leads this free online talk aimed to raise awareness about blood stem cell donation, including the shortage of stem cell donors available for Black patients.
