A couple have been jailed after leaving their eight-week-old baby with more than 60 broken bones before she died. 

Naomi Johnson, 23 and Benjamin O’Shea, 26 called paramedics to their home in Southwark, South London where they tried to save the baby however, she died on the scene. 

O’Shea has been sentenced to eight years and eight months in jail, while Johnson was handed a person of seven years and two months. The parents were both former army reservists  

The cause of her death was originally believed to be Sudden Unexplained Death in Infants, however a post mortem X-Ray uncovered Amina had suffered from several injuries in her two months of life. 

Amina-Faye Johnson had 41 fractures to her ribs and 24 fractures to her limbs. Some were found to be recent injuries, while others had begun to heal- indicating that the girl had been abused for some time. 

The couple claimed in police interviews that Amina’s death was due to a GP visit and the fractures were caused by the paramedic. 

Following a four-week trial they were found guilty of allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm. 

As a part of the investigation detectives found texts between the pair where they both admit to slapping the child and treating the child poorly. The couple have were also found guilty of cruelty to another child.
