When important facts or information is revealed ahead of time, some people may rejoice at getting to know what’s to come from their favourite franchises, however recently there is a growing feeling of disappointment whenever data miners leak information about an upcoming game or game update.

The argument over the morality of leaks has arisen once again with the recent release of “Pokemon: Legends Arceus”. In the weeks running up to the release, many people have acquired the game ahead of time through illegitimate methods in order to play early and release information to the public.

Whilst developer and publisher Nintendo have worked tirelessly to take down as many of the leaks as possible, there are still new leaks every day. For people who are interested in leaks, this is fine, however those who wish to have an authentic first-time experience, these leaks are ruining the experience.

Long time Pokemon fan Matt Brandl said: “Unfortunately, we just seem to live in a world where algorithms have completely destroyed the idea of surprises or experiencing things for the first time yourself if you express an interest in something online.”

It’s not easy to escape spoilers in this digital age, and it’s a shame that this culture of leaking content before its release is taking its toll of fans who just want to have an authentic experience.
