United States President Joe Biden has warned American citizens to leave Ukraine, in case of Russian military advancement.

The U.S. Government has stated that they will not be able to extract American citizens from the country if Russian forces do move in.

“We’re dealing with one of the largest armies in the world. It’s a very different situation and things could go crazy quickly.”, President Biden told NBC News.

This follows a week of failed diplomatic attempts to reach a settlement between Ukraine and Russia, held by French and German officials.

The threat of Russian invasion has loomed over Ukraine since the southern Crimea peninsula was invaded by Russia in 2014.

“We’re in a window when an invasion could begin at any time – and to be clear, that includes during the Olympics.” US secretary of state Antony Blinken told reporters on Friday.

Russia has historically been accused of supporting Pro – Russian separatists in the east of Ukraine, near Russia’s borders.

Russian Naval Drills have been taking place in Crimea, with ten days of military exercising also occurring in Belarus. This has concerned some, who believes the Russian naval games will allow an easier attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
