Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) is preparing to pay a one off payment of £150 to all households with properties in Council Tax bands A to D in April. The direct government payment is aimed at assisting with the recent rise in energy costs.

To speed up the process and make it easier to receive this money, the council is calling on anyone in these council tax bands to sign up to pay by Direct Debit if they are not already set up to pay this way.

The council will have the details of those residents already signed up to pay their council tax by Direct Debit and if eligible, they will not need to do anything.

MBC is waiting for guidance from the Government about how to make payments to those who don’t pay by Direct Debit. Second Homes do not qualify for this payment.
