Deadly Chemical Blast Kills Six In Prague

Six people were killed in a severe blast at a chemical plant in Kralupy nad Vltavou, Czech Republic. The blast took place at a Unipetrol facility north of Prague. The cause of the explosion is still unknown.

A spokeswoman for the regional fire service, Vladimira Kerekova stated: “We have received information about six dead and several others seriously injured,”

Unipetrol, one of the largest oil distributing companies, have said following the explosion that a fire broke out in a storage tank and that there is no danger to residents in the town.

Unipetrol spokesperson Pavel Kaidl said “The situation is under control and there is no other danger”

Unipetrol are a manufacturer of many items, including toughened polystyrene and synthetic rubber. The facility in Kralupy nad Vlatvou has 3.2 million tonnes of oil flowing through.

This is not the first incident involving one of Unipetrol’s chemical plants. In 2015 a blast and fire at their Litvinov facility saw the refinery closed for over a year.
