Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway

Declan Donnelly has made the decision to carry on with Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

This comes after Ant McPartlin was arrested for drink driving. The left half of the double act smashed into two cars and injured a three-year-old after losing control of his Mini on a roundabout in Richmond.

Dec decided that he owed it to fans to carry on with the show and ensure promises are kept with regards to taking competition winners to Florida.

How exactly is the show going to work now though? With half of Britain’s favourite double act out of action, we take a look at how the next instalment of the show could run.

  • Title sequence – Given that we don’t know that Ant won’t be returning the show in later years, it would be silly to take him out of the opening title sequence. Expect the intro to be the same!
  • Presenting – With Ant unavailable, Dec may choose to call on Stephen Mulhern or Scarlett Moffatt to help present the show. Both are lively characters and may well help ease the burden on Dec. The show must go on!
  • Ant vs Dec – The iconic segment involving a challenge, whereby Ant and Dec compete live, is one of the highlights of the show. It would be highly difficult to pull this off without Ant, but who knows? Maybe Stephen Mulhern could dress as Ant and compete for him?
  • I’m a CelebrityGet out me ear! – One of the most loved parts of the show. The infamous behind-the-scenes pranking could still work without Ant. As last week’s episode showed, replacing Ant and Dec with Joel Dommett and Scarlett Moffatt worked just as well. Who knows? Maybe Dec could bring in a guest prankster!
  • Win the ads – The penultimate section of the show. A random member of the audience is chosen to win the contents of the advert break of an ITV show. Normally Ant takes control of this segment, so maybe Dec could take this opportunity to stamp his own style on the competition.
  • “End of the show” show – The final musical segment usually involves bringing in a guest music star to perform live on stage. Ant and Dec usually join in – embarrassing themselves in the process! However, with only half of the duo ready for action Stephen Mulhern – “star of stage and screen” could well be called upon to fill the void. With his performance background he would be a naturally fit to replace Ant for this segment. His flamboyant style would suit this segment perfectly.

Dec tweeted: “We made a promise to take hundreds of deserving winners to Florida to watch the series finale, and we will honour that. Everyone at ITV and the Takeaway team feels we owe it to the audience to complete the series.”

The show is expected to return on March 31st.
