F1 returns: These are the big changes

The F1 season 2018 is about to start tonight, the second season after the Liberty Media take-over, and there will be some big changes.

New Logo

The new controversial F1 logo was already introduced at the end of last season.

Drivers

The grid will welcome two new drivers for the season 2018: Charles Leclerc at Sauber and Sergey Sirotkin at Williams. Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Force India and Haas will all have the same driver line-up as at the end of last season.

Schedule

The start times of races has been changed to improve the experience of TV viewers. The French GP also made its come back after a decade of absence from F1.

Grid girls

Grid girls will be banned from the new season as a response to the #MeToo movement. Grid kids will overtake the role of grid girls.

Teams

Alfa Romeo will make a comeback to F1 after a 30-year absence. It signed a strategic alliance with Sauber shortly after the end of the 2017 season.

Tyres

More different types of tyres will be available to the teams in 2018. Superhard and Hypersoft tyres were added to ultrasoft, supersoft, soft, medium, hard and intermediate tyres.

Halo

Even if not very popular among fans, the halo a head protection for drivers will be compulsory in 2018. It is meant to save lives and prevent serious head injuries in case of a crash.

Three-engine limit

Some teams are already complaining about the three-engine limit for the coming season. With 21 races this season, teams will be allowed less engine changes than last season, when there were only 20 races.

Simplified grid penalties

The goal of simplified grid penalties is to make the starting line-up less confusing for fans.

Shark fins

The shark-fin engine covers as well as the T-wings won’t be needed in the new season anymore.
