RACISM AMONGST STUDENTS IN UNIVERSITIES

Lately, students from ethnic minorities have been complaining on social media about the racial attacks they have to face at their universities in the UK.

A black female student at Nottingham Trent University named Rufaro Chisango recently suffered from this, as she was subjected to a tirade of racist abuse with students standing outside her door chanting “we hate black people” and “f*** the blacks”.

This was a really shocking and sad incident, Rufaro was left confined in her room after which she complained to her accommodation about what had happened.

This incident occurred on Monday but wasn’t dealt with up until Thursday when two 18-year-old men were arrested in connection with the video.

This issue didn’t gain enough attention up until she decided to post her story on twitter and people started reaching out to the university asking if anything has been done.

There was a lot of critism about how long it took the university to take action. It took the university and accommodation three days to arrest the boys after she had complained about the incident.

After her tweets and the footage went vial, North London MP David Lammy replied to her tweet urging her to contact her local MPs and the police.

The university mainly replied that they were already investigating the issue but Ms Chisango still had to live with the same people that racially abused her.

Following up on this story, a boy from the university of Exeter also shared his on story where lawyers on a group chat were addressing people using racial slurs like “P***s” and “Ni***s”. People also accused the university of not doing addressing these issues of racism.
