Lord Hain defends his decision to name Green as harasser in Parliament

by Sam Baker, reporter

Lord Hain has today defended his decision to publicly name Sir Philip Green as the alleged perpetrator of five separate harassment claims.

Lord Hain named Sir Philip during a speech in Parliament using his right to absolute parliamentary privilege.

The Daily Telegraph was prevented from identifying Sir Philip after he sought an injuction against publication of his name.

Sir Philip says he “categorically and wholly” denies the allegations.

Despite this, there have been several calls for Sir Philip to be stripped of his knighthood – a punishment he narrowly avoided after the BHS scandal, which saw the business enter administration.

Since naming Sir Philip, Lord Hain has received huge support on social media, especially from women.

He felt he needed to name Sir Philip as part of his Parliamentary duty, given Green’s position, wealth and power.
