Night at the museums to attract a younger audience

A brand new cultural festival in London will be taking place next year, in an attempt to attract younger people to our museums, following the revelation that only 48% of 16-24 year olds had visited a museum or gallery in the past year.

The new festival will be arranged by Brighton-based charity Culture24 in June under the name ‘Otherworld’. The event will replace the Museum at Night May festival, and is specifically targeted towards people between 20 and 30 years old.

Site manager of Appsley House and Wellington Arch, Marcus Cribbs, is excited for the new plans and hopes it will attract a new audience.

“I think we need to be factionary to what people want to see and do, which is music, drinks, experiences. As opposed to just looking and appreciating the art they want it to come out and really show them why it is such a wow-factor,” he says.

According to Culture 24’s website, the new festival will be a game-changer for the museum and gallery sector. The hope is that a new generation of museum-goers will be fall in love with the ever-evolving world of art.

The Museum at Night October festival is taking place at 55 museum and galleries across the capital this weekend.
