A man accused of killing a 19-year-old woman on Christmas Day has appeared in court.

Mohammad Qoraishi, 27, is charged with the murder of Parwin Quriashi, who was found dead at a property in London Road, Maidstone.

Police said Ms Quriashi suffered “significant injuries” and confirmed she had died at the scene on Tuesday.

Qoraishi was arrested on suspicion of murder, and after he was charged on Thursday, appeared by video link before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Wearing a grey jumper, a bearded Qoraishi did not enter a plea and spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

When asked by the court to give his nationality, he said: “Afghan.”

Emergency services were called at 1.18pm on Christmas Day to a property in London Road, Kent Police previously said.

South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the scene and confirmed the teenager was dead.

Police had previously confirmed that the suspect and victim were known to each other.

Qoraishi, of London Road, Maidstone, was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on December 31.
