by Laerke Christensen, reporter

Ben Lacomba, of Bazes Shaw, New Ash Green appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on the 17th January at 2pm.

The 38-year-old stands accused of murdering Sarah Wellgreen, who was last seen in New Ash Green on October 9th last year.

He was first arrested on the 16th December last year in connection with the murder investigation but since released. He was re-arrested on the 20th, and charged later that day.

Dressed in a navy suit and tie with a chequered shirt, Mr Lacomba spoke only to identify himself and enter a plea of not guilty.

Prosecutor Adam Payter spoke of the difficulties of setting trial dates for a case in which the body had not been found, saying that: “In a case in which the body has not been recovered it may be that further evidence comes to light.”

Defence Clare Antenen said that: “Mr Lacomba’s case is very clear. He knows nothing.”

The trial has been set for the 18th of June, and is expected to last three to four weeks. Mr Lacomba’s next appearance at the court will be on the 17th May. He remains in custody.

The search for Sarah Wellgreen’s body is ongoing.
