Hit West End show Kinky Boots hits Canterbury

The smash hit musical kinky boots has come from London’s West End to Canterbury’s Marlowe theatre and has almost sold out since its premiere on Wednesday.

West End star Kayi Ushe will be putting on the red boots to play Lola. He will be joined by  Paula Lane as Lauren, best known for her role as Kylie Platt in  Coronation Street.

The musical has won every major musical award in Britain. According to staff it is one of the biggest shows to come to the Marlowe theatre, and they couldn’t be more excited.

Kinky Boots director, Jerry Mitchell expressed his enthusiasm upon arriving in Canterbury in a tweet. He stated, “CANTERBURY!!! Our #KinkyBootsTour factory is here and ready to say YEAH, YEAH, YEAAAAAAAH with you!”

The show features the music of Grammy winning artist Cyndi Lauper that everyone can dance along to, and dives into themes of inclusivity and acceptance.

When Charlie inherits his father’s shoe factory he is in dire need of financial help and when drag queen Lola comes along needing a new pair of boots, an unexpected story unfolds.

Maxine Reiner, a Canterbury resident who attended the premier of the show, expressed her love for the show and fear of not being able to buy tickets. “This show was amazing I have seen it so many times but I love it being so close to me. I was so scared I might not be able to get my premiere ticket because the ticket website was crashing.”

After Kinky Boots hits Canterbury with its fabulous tunes it will be moving to the Regent theatre in Stroke-On-Trent.

Kinky Boots runs at Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre from Monday, January 16 until Saturday, January 26.
