Premier League Previews: 19th and 20th January

The battle for a top four spot and the relegation battle dominate this weekend’s Premier League line-up.

Arsenal host Chelsea on Saturday evening with the Gunners looking to arrest their recent poor form in a must-win match for their top four hopes. Unai Emery’s men have hit a sticky patch after their unbeaten run whilst Maurizio Sarri’s Blues have looked far from their best recently despite back to back away league wins. The uncertainty over Mesut Ozil’s future has dominated Arsenal’s build up this week but Emery has said the German “has a chance” to feature, whilst Sarri believes Chelsea “will have to fight for the top four until the end”.

Meanwhile at the bottom of the table, Newcastle host Cardiff as both teams look to drag themselves away from danger. Magpies boss Rafa Benitez issued his rallying cry ahead of the clash: “This is a big game, and we want to win; it is not rocket science. We need the fans to stay behind the team”. Newcastle are boosted by the availability of Jamaal Lascelles after his midweek injury scare, whilst Neil Warnock has confirmed the Bluebirds will be without captain Sean Morrison after he had a hospital procedure early this week.

Tottenham will be without Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son as they look to get their title challenge back on track at Craven Cottage, with Fulham desperate for a result to boost their survival hopes. Elsewhere, Leicester make the short trip to Wolves as both teams look to make ground on Watford who host struggling Burnley.

Huddersfield have a difficult first game without David Wagner as they face Manchester City in the Sunday lunchtime kick off, who will be looking to looking to pile the pressure on Liverpool who host Crystal Palace later that afternoon. Palace have a decent record at Anfield but will happily talk a draw against the in-form side as they look to steer clear of the relegation zone.

In the rest of the Saturday 3pm kick offs; Southampton go into their game against Everton knowing it is an opportunity for a precious three points at home as they look to take advantage of Newcastle or Cardiff dropping points, Manchester United aim to continue their revival under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer as they welcome Brighton to Old Trafford, and West Ham look to continue their challenge for European football as they visit a Bournemouth side without a win in five.
