West Malling Cat’s Found Dead In Suspected Killing

Kent vets are warning owners to keep their pets inside over suspected cat killings.

A family in West Malling believe their two cats were deliberately poisoned with antifreeze, causing them to be put down on January 4th.

Ute Dech, of Abbotsley Veterinary Group, told Kent Online: “Sadly, the window for any effective treatment is only around 12 hours after digestion, so by the time the pets showed any symptoms, it would already have been too late.”

James Sweeney, 39, and his wife Amy adopted the brother and sister pair of cats from a rescue home 15 years ago, and he claims that there was no way that the cats could’ve been accidently poisoned.

“The answer was no. They never left our back garden, which has a high fence, and we don’t store any antifreeze.”

RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre that “It’s important to make sure that owners know what is poisonous to their pets, and make every effort to prevent unnecessary deaths from animals from household items.

“If there is a killer or someone who wants to harm animals, it’s advisable to ensure pets are kept inside in the night-time, and to provide a way of tracking them down if they go missing, such as an ID chip.”

This appears to be the latest in a series of cat killings stemming back to 2014, where more than 400 animal victims have been discovered mutilated.
