Danish police closing in on Esbjerg “bike botherer”

by Laerke Christensen

Danish police could be closer to catching the individual who has plagued the city since December.

Around 20 women in the West Jutland town have gone to police after being sexually assaulted from behind by a man riding a bike.

The modus operandi in all the cases was the same: a man would ride up behind the women on his bike and touch their back and backside.

However, on Sunday 20th January South Jutland Police were able to arrest a 32-year-old man after a woman had been assaulted and was able to tell police in which direction the offender was cycling.

Police arrested the man at 9.55 pm. He was also charged with sexual assault after stroking a woman down the back and touching her backside on Saturday the 19th January.

South Jutland Police have received around 20 reports of sexual assault in this form since December. The victims’ age span from 20 to 76 years old.

The man was not charged with all 20 offences that were brought to South Jutland Police, but the police are continuing to investigate these cases.
