Can strict diets affect our health?

by Victoria Lupascu

January is a time for resolutions, people everywhere in the UK are hitting the gym and start really strict diet plans. Many of them don’t ask the advice of a professional and follow Instagram trends. But can this affect our health?

Nutritionist Isaac Butcher, from Imagine Your Life said that diets are not healthy in general and that people can find other ways to lose weight.

He said: “From my perspective they don’t need to actually diet to lose weight, they just need to replace certain foods with other foods.”

Isaac said that some people who promote very strict diets online, have a hidden reason and sometimes they sell supplements.

Our mental health can also be affected by the diets we follow.

Isaac said: “We’re driven a lot by what we see and what we think we should look like in this society and what we think we should have. All those things drive us to some extreme sometimes.”

Nowadays, nutrition bloggers have caught the attention of most people who are using social media.

Lini Gibawy, a health and food blogger from Beirut said that we should find a diet that is right for us, not something the we just saw on social media.

She said: “We have to satisfy all four components of a healthy lifestyle which are: a healthy diet, regularly sleep, daily activity and managing stress.”

Lini said it’s not only the diet that helps you lose weight but your entire lifestyle.
