Mandela exhibition premieres in London

Today (Friday) sees Nelson Mandela: The Official Exhibition makes its world premiere in London.

The event celebrates the life and legacy of South Africa’s first democratically elected leader, who spent his life fighting apartheid and injustice.

Located in the Waterloo Tunnels, the exhibition has seven zones commemorating the various stages of Mandela’s life, and the struggle against apartheid.

Exclusive to the London exhibition is a zone dedicated to the anti-apartheid effort in Britain, where many African National Congress were in exile. The zone lets visitors trace the money trail of aid sent to the families of political prisoners and join the ‘London Recruits’ as well as much more.

Zelda la Grange, who was Mandela’s personal aide and a guest curator for the exhibition, said she was “extremely happy” with how the exhibition turned out.

“Looking at it I know he [Mandela] would be very pleased with all the contributions that helped make the exhibition. It is critical for us to constantly invigorate history with exhibitions of this nature”.

The exhibition also features prominent British figures who spoke out against the apartheid regime as well as multiple interactive screens and videos.

The exhibition is in London until June 2nd, and tickets can be found at mandelaexhibition.com/tickets.
