NHS rolls out new software despite bugs

Medway GP Dr Julian Spinks has confirmed that the NHS is going ahead with the rollout of it’s new software, despite “thousands” of problems.

Kent Current exclusively broke the news a couple of weeks ago about how the NHS’ new software: SNOMED CT had been trialled over Christmas, but broke, leaving GPs unable to recall patients for follow-up treatments.

This was coupled with mis-diagnosis of patients, with certain clients being diagnosed with cancer, despite not actually having it.

Speaking earlier this week, Dr Spinks confirmed that SNOMED CT will still be rolled out by the NHS because officials do not want to wait any longer – despite there still being faults within the programming.

Over Christmas, GP surgeries across the country had to find solutions to the broken code so that they could recall patients and it seems that the NHS was unable to find a nationwide fix, leaving GPs to fix the messes that arose, on their own.

Dr Spinks did confirm however, that once the kinks in the system are ironed out, the new system will be of greater benefit to health experts across the country as it provides a centralised database that is accessible anywhere in the country.
